The US hair extension market demands not just length and volume, but sophisticated, natural color work. For stylists and discerning clients who prioritize a flawless, dimensional look, the combination of Butterfly Wefts P4/12 delivers an unparalleled experience. This isn't just an extension; it's a foundation for custom, luxurious hair.
Understanding the shade code is key to appreciating its appeal. The P4/12 designation refers to a premium "Piano" color blend—a classic, yet dynamic contrast that has become a staple in high-end salons.
· P4 (Base): This is the dominant, darker shade, typically a rich medium-to-dark brown. It provides the depth and contrast necessary for the dimensional look to pop.
· 12 (Highlight): This is the interspersed, lighter color—a warm, buttery blonde or light brown. The P indicates that these two shades are seamlessly blended throughout the weft, creating a "piano" effect of alternating ribbons of color.
The P4/12 is universally flattering and highly sought after because it mimics natural sun-kissed dimension, eliminating the need for clients to pre-lighten their own hair significantly to achieve a highlighted effect.
For the US consumer, flatness is the enemy of premium hair. A dimensional shade like P4/12 adds movement and perceived volume. The subtle light-and-dark contrast tricks the eye, making the hair look thicker, healthier, and more expertly colored. This blend offers maximum impact with minimal commitment to permanent color changes.
The weft type is just as crucial as the color. The "Butterfly Weft" refers to a specific, high-end weft construction—often a hand-tied or specialized machine-sewn hybrid—designed for maximum comfort and a near-invisible installation.
This structure addresses common pain points in the extension industry:
· Lighter Weight: The construction is significantly lighter per track, reducing tension on the client's natural hair, which is a key factor in long-term hair health.
· Zero Return Hairs: Unlike some machine-wefts, a true Butterfly Weft minimizes or eliminates the short, stubby "return hairs" that can cause itching, breakage, or matting at the scalp.
· Precision Cutting: They lay exceptionally flat against the head, which is non-negotiable for seamless layering and blending, particularly in a high-end salon finish.
As an industry professional, the successful application of Butterfly Wefts P4/12 hinges on two things: proper color matching and expert cutting.
The P4 base is your guide. The extension base must flawlessly merge with the client's natural base color at the root and mid-shaft. If the client's hair is a true black or a light ash brown, this blend will not be as seamless.
Expert Tip: To achieve a flawless match, consider placing the P4/12 as the primary weft and using a separate, solid P4 weft (or even a darker root weft) at the very top track to hide the transition point completely. This creates a natural, shadow-root effect that is highly popular and easily maintained.
Educating the client is essential for preserving the premium investment.
· Sulfate-Free Products: Absolutely crucial to prevent the delicate P4/12 color from stripping and to maintain the integrity of the weft bonding.
· Heat Protection: Direct heat should always be minimized, especially on the blonde 12 highlights, which can brass more quickly than the darker P4.
· Correct Brushing: Using an extension-safe brush and supporting the weft track while brushing prevents undue tension and damage.
By positioning the Butterfly Wefts P4/12 not as a commodity but as a tool for achieving sophisticated, dimensional color, you elevate the perception of quality and justify the premium price point in the competitive U.S. market.
A: Yes, you can. However, we strongly recommend a strand test first. Use a low-developer, non-lifting toner or color bath only. Since extension hair has already been processed, it is highly porous and will absorb color much faster than natural hair. Focus only on neutralizing any unwanted brassiness, not changing the tone completely.
A: For maximum comfort, natural movement, and the flattest possible lay against the scalp—essential for fine hair or updos—the Butterfly Weft is superior. Machine Wefts are generally thicker at the seam and often yield more volume but can be less comfortable for long-term wear. The Butterfly Weft is the premium, lower-profile option.
A: The typical maintenance window for a sewn-in weft method is 6 to 8 weeks. This depends heavily on the client's natural hair growth rate and how well they maintain the integrity of the base track (the braid or microbeads) at home. Waiting longer than 8 weeks increases the risk of matting and tension damage.
For K tips, I tips and Nano- 25 grams per pack. 1 gram per strand
For Genius , Butterfly and Machine Wefts- 16"-22" is 50 gram weft
24" and longer- 60 gram weft
Tape and Invisible tape- 50 grams per pack. 20 pcs which is 10 sandwiches
Wide tape wefts- 50 grams per wide weft
Hand Tied Wefts- 16”- 22” 134 grams per bundle. 24” and longer - 160 grams per bundle
For lengths 16-18" extensions you'll need 50 -75 Grams of hair if your only looking for fuller hair or adding highlights or lowlights. If you're looking to add length, 100-150 Grams should be good for a full head depending on how thick your hair is. If you have thin, fine hair, 100 grams should suffice.
20"-22". Again 50-75 Grams should be good to thicken hair or add that pop of color for hair that is already this length. 120-180 Grams is usually good for this length for a full head, depending on the length and thickness of your own hair.
24-26". If you're buying hair this long, chances are you are buying for length. Usually 160 - 240 Grams of hair is good for this length. for a full head.
Hair 28" and longer should be 200-300 Grams of Hair. Anything less will be hard to blend and you want to make sure you have thickness through the ends of your hair. No one likes thin, straggly ends.
